Berat, Albania

On our way from Gjirokastra to Tirana, we passed through some country side of Albania, and made a stop at Berat.

 In Albania, Christians and Muslims lived together in peace.  They buried their dead in the same open cemetery : 
Berat has been a site of human activity since prehistory, and now a UNESCO site.  We visited the "living" castle on the hilltop: The villagers live with the ancient castle ruin around them.





We stopped by a local restaurant and had a wonderful lunch:
 Obviously they had the custom of cock fight according to this picture on the wall:


As we drove from Beret to Tirana, we saw a number of Ottoman buildings with their unique windows.  Berat is also nicknamed the city of 1000 windows:
